Serving Richardson

Representing Jesus to our community through involvement in hands-on service here in Richardson: Hunger | Students

Hunger is a very real issue for too many children in our own community. Join us as we reflect the light of God’s goodness to families in our community.

Sign up | Partnering with the City of Richardson, we are launching our FBR Community Garden October 21. The irrigation system is now ready, and on our Launch Day, we are completing building our raised beds for our 10 church Donation Beds for a winter crop and our 14 Rental Beds starting Spring 2018.

Our own FBR donation garden, and 10% of rental garden produce, will further support our Food for Families program, along with other hunger-solving initiatives.

Sign up | Having launched July 8, we partnered with Crossroads Community Services, a hub of North Texas Food Bank, to adopt 5 families struggling with hunger needs. Read here to find out how Crossroads has revolutionized food distribution to ensure a life-changing impact.

On the second Saturday of each month, our Food for Families team picks ups food from Crossroads, sorts it on church campus, and receives families as they pick up their personalized, nutritionally balanced, food. Normally, we provide 7 days of food for every month. We're also seeking to understand their needs to consider other restorative offers.

Seeking to make a redemptive impact in the lives of the underprivileged, we ask you to join with us in being the face of Jesus and our church to students in RISD (Richardson Independent School District) and UTD (University of Texas at Dallas).

Sign up | For a 25 minute lunch a week, your time with an elementary student can restore a child's vision of themselves.

Sign up | For a 25 minute lunch a week, your time with a junior high student can be redemptive in their self-worth.

Sign up | 70-80% of UTD International students desire to experience American culture, but never do. If you can have 2 students to your home once a month, and once a week check in (call, email, etc.), you could be their introduction to our culture...and to Jesus.

Sign up | For 1.5 hours every other week, you can join the BSM lunch. They are curious about American culture and life after college. Most international students are open to discussing realities of different faiths.

Get involved in 1 of 3 ways with this lunch:

  1. Table Leader: Sit at the same table with 4 or 5 of the same students. No "required" led-discussion...just conversation.
  2. Front Desk: Help Table Leaders get to the right table. Receive and greet students.
  3. Food Server: Help serve food.
