Representing Jesus to our community through involvement in hands-on service here in Richardson: Hunger | Students
SERVING RICHARDSON HUNGER
Hunger is a very real issue for too many children in our own community. Join us as we reflect the light of God’s goodness to families in our community.
FOOD FOR FAMILIES
Sign up | Having launched July 8, we partnered with Crossroads Community Services, a hub of North Texas Food Bank, to adopt 5 families struggling with hunger needs. Read here to find out how Crossroads has revolutionized food distribution to ensure a life-changing impact.
On the second Saturday of each month, our Food for Families team picks ups food from Crossroads, sorts it on church campus, and receives families as they pick up their personalized, nutritionally balanced, food. Normally, we provide 7 days of food for every month. However, in the summer, as many children do not receive a breakfast or lunch, Crossroads provides us a portion of 3 weeks of food for each family for July and August. We're also seeking to understand their needs to consider other restorative offers.
Sign up | First Baptist Richardson and the City of Richardson are exploring an opportunity to create an FBR Community Garden. The vision is moving toward initially starting a donation garden, and then expanding to rent additional plots to bridge relationships into our local community.
Our own FBR donation garden, and 10% of rental garden produce, will further support our Food for Families program.
SERVING RICHARDSON STUDENTS
Seeking to make a redemptive impact in the lives of the underprivileged, we ask you to join with us in being the face of Jesus and our church to students in RISD (Richardson Independent School District) and UTD (University of Texas at Dallas).
NORTHRICH ELEMENTARY SCHOOL
Sign up | For a 25 minute lunch a week, your time with an elementary student can restore a child's vision of themselves.
NORTH JUNIOR HIGH SCHOOL
Sign up | For a 25 minute lunch a week, your time with a junior high student can be redemptive in their self-worth.
UTD FRIENDSHIP PARTNERS
Sign up | 70-80% of UTD International students desire to experience American culture, but never do. If you can have 2 students to your home once a month, and once a week check in (call, email, etc.), you could be their introduction to our culture...and to Jesus.
UTD BSM INTERNATIONAL LUNCH
Sign up | For 1.5 hours every other week, you can join the BSM lunch. They are curious about American culture and life after college. Most international students are open to discussing realities of different faiths.
Get involved in 1 of 3 ways with this lunch:
- Table Leader: Sit at the same table with 4 or 5 of the same students. No "required" led-discussion...just conversation.
- Front Desk: Help Table Leaders get to the right table. Receive and greet students.
- Food Server: Help serve food.
