Counseling can offer adolescents a safe, respectful, and honest place to discuss and process matters outside of family and friends. This can be beneficial for a variety of reasons during this life stage. We do not offer play therapy at this time. So adolescents that are seen at our location are clearly ready for talk and activity therapy (around 12 years of age.) Some areas of attention we focus on in Adolescent counseling are:

  • Self Esteem and Insecurity
  • Emotional Regulation and Maturity
  • Behavioral Challenges
  • Challenges with relationships

PREMARITAL COUNSELING PROGRAM
Getting married is exciting and hard work. Our goal is to challenge and prepare couples for the life long journey ahead of them. We approach marriage from a biblical and faith-based perspective, although we strive to meet others where they are in their beliefs.

Our program is a minimum of 10 counseling sessions but can be lengthened based on the couple’s needs. We use the Prepare/Enrich tool to assess the couple’s strength and growth areas. We also use the FOCCUS tool to create a roadmap of topics for the couple to cover during the counseling process and after. We also spend 1-2 sessions focusing on intimacy and sexuality in preparation for marriage. We use Getting Your Sex Life Off To A Great Start: A Guide For Newlywed and Engaged Couples For Newlywed and Engaged Couples by Clifford and Joyce Penner as a text for this portion of the counseling process.

We participate in the Twogether in Texas Program offering couples $60 off their marriage certificate for participating in at least 8 hours of premarital preparation.

The program is a fee per session agreement and couples are expected to purchase the following:

  • Prepare/Enrich Assessment (set up by the counselor)
  • FOCCUS (set up by the counselor)
  • Getting Your Sex Life Off To A Great Start: A Guide For Newlywed and Engaged Couples For Newlywed and Engaged Couples by Clifford and Joyce Penner

EMDR

Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing is a therapy that has been empirically validated by several studies. Although it is not a good fit for all people or challenges, it can be an effective tool for treating the symptoms of emotional distress that are the result of disturbing life experiences. Using the brain’s natural ability to process and heal, EMDR helps the mind remove blocked cognitions that cause suffering. Some areas of attention we focus on in EMDR therapy are:

  • Trauma
  • Abuse and/or Assault
  • Post Traumatic Stress Disorder
  • Veterans
  • First Responders
  • Crime victims, police officers, fire fighters and first responders
  • Excessive grief and guilt
  • Performance anxiety
  • Phobias, panic disorder or anxiety
  • Body image Issues
